Sam Morris
BSc, PhD
Genetic Epidemiologist
Sam joined the NDPH in January 2022 to work as a genetic epidemiologist in the China Kadoorie Biobank genomics team. Before working at the NDPH, Sam completed his PhD in ancient DNA and statistical genetics at UCL Genetics Institute and a BSc in Biology at the University of Sheffield. He has also worked on the genetics of wild insect populations.
In NDPH, Sam works in the genetics group and is currently working on identifying pathogenic disease-causing variants which may be common in East Asian individuals. He is also interested in applying population genetic methods to the large CKB dataset in order to learn more about the population structure and demographic history of China and how it may relate to present-day disease burden. In his spare time, Sam enjoys amateur astronomy and riding his bike.
