Canqing Yu completed an undergraduate degree in preventive medicine at Peking University (PKU) in 2004, and spent the next five years completing his PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at PKU where he has been working ever since. From 2007-2008, he studied cancer epidemiology as a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States.

He visited China Kadoorie Biobank at CTSU, Oxford University from September 2012 - August 2013 while in receipt of a scholarship from the Sino-British Friendship Trust. He joined the National Coordination Centre in 2011. He is responsible for data management and research management at NCC Beijing. His research interests focus on non-communicable diseases and their genetic and non-genetic determinants in large cohort studies as well as twin studies in China.
