Yifan Xing
DPhil Student
Yifan joined the Clinical Trials Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) in October 2024 as a DPhil student in Population Health. Her research focuses on applying statistical and machine learning methods to investigate the genetic architecture of common cancers, utilising data from both the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and the UK Biobank (UKB). She is co-supervised by Dr. Christiana Kartsonaki and Dr. Kyriaki Michailidou.
Prior to joining the department, Yifan obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) and an MSc in Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning from Imperial College London in 2023 and 2024, respectively. She completed her BSc in Nursing at Shandong University, China, in 2022. During her Master’s studies, she conducted a meta-analysis investigating the association between the use of anti-inflammatory drugs and colorectal cancer risk. Additionally, she developed a data-driven model to address residual confounding in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on cardiovascular disease (CVD). Yifan also gained clinical experience through an internship at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University.
